8 Ways to Make a Summer Slumber Party a Success

Summer is here, and so is the season of stress-less nights. Why not share one with some of your closest friends? Here’s some fun ideas to make the night a success and memorable:

1.       Backyard camping

Grab a tent and some sleeping bags and go camp out in the backyard! Set up the grill or a fire pit, roast up some hot dogs, and make some s’mores to complete the experience. If the weather isn’t permitting, no problem! Just set up in the living room and make s’mores in the microwave or over the stove. Set up a few teddy bears as wild bears you have to sneakily avoid between the camp, kitchen, and bathroom.

2.       Karaoke night

Make a CD or playlist of easy karaoke songs and belt out those tunes. Have everyone pitch in a song or two before you make the list. If you want to make it more of a competition, make a fake trophy and give it to the person who sings the best, or maybe even sings the worst! Don’t forget to applaud everyone that stands up to sing.

3.       Movies, movies, movies!

Movie marathons are always a fun way to spend the evening, especially with a group of friends. Pop some popcorn and get some trashy movies that you’d never watch – except with your best friends. A solid choice is always a good chick flick. If you’re feeling extra brave, throw on a horror movie series – just keep a flashlight close!

4.       Makeovers

Grab the home remedies and cucumbers, and make some face masks and relax with your girlfriends. Go out and get new nail polish beforehand and give each other manicures and pedicures. To make it extra entertaining, give your friend a blindfold makeover, and have her give you one. Don’t forget to take pictures!

5.       Video games

Video games are for everyone – Super Smash Bros. on N64 is a favorite of mine. Dance Dance Revolution is always popular, but don’t shy away from Assassin’s Creed or Call of Duty if that’s more your style. Wii sports are great for the competitive people in your friend group. Give everyone a chance to play.

6.       Dance party!

Have fun just dancing! Throw on some good party music or songs you all like, move some furniture around, and just dance! Go crazy, make up new moves, and maybe even learn some new ones.

7.       Candy night

Mix and match different kinds of candy. Make your own – rock candy is easy and safe to make. Make some cookies with fun cookie cutters and decorate them with different color frosting.

8.       Play some standard sleepover games

A few rounds of “Truth or Dare” have probably happened at every sleepover, because it always leads to some gossip. “Would You Rather” is also a common, fun game that brings out sides of your friend you might not know! “Two Truths and a Lie” is always a good one. Board games or cards are always a good option; have your friends bring some of their favorite games.

Most important part of any sleepover: have fun! Whether that is just talking, going out for an adventure, or gossiping about boys, do whatever you and your friends love to do. Make sure everyone is being included in the games and food. Slumber parties are supposed to be fun and all-encompassing. Whether you choose to watch movies or just sit around, talk, and eat, make some memories.
