You’ve seen literature-inspired cakes and Jelly Belly mosaics, but have you heard of the latest trend in the world of food art? They’re called “bento boxes”, and they’re pretty awesome.


A traditional Japanese bento holds rice, meat, and pickled or cooked vegetables. Sounds like an ordinary lunchbox to me. Okay, the way most people put them together, sure. But there isn’t anything "ordinary” about the elaborate kyaraben style (“character bento”) boxes some parents put together. So as school kicks off and lunchtime with it, take a look!
