Everyone loves a good book. Everyone loves a good birthday cake too. However, a select few know how to take the best of both worlds and make something magical out of them. Feast your eyes upon these book-inspired cake designs!

1. Harry Potter

Harry Potter Wedding Cake..man I wish i had seen this way back when

This sleek design by Oakleaf Cakes beautifully depicts our favorite wizarding school. I especially love the fact that the sky fades from day to night--stars included!

2. Horton Hears a Who

Dr. Suess Cake - Inspired by the book, "Horton Hears a Who"

Silver Spoon Cake’s pays tribute to one of the world’s most beloved characters.

3. The Hobbit

Speaking of beloved characters, Imaginarium Cakes has provided us with 15 of them! On a side note, after seeing the film I don't think I'll ever be able to look at Bombur's face again without thinking "barrel roll". Anyone else?

4. The Chronicles of Narnia

I got the idea from someone here on CC. For the life of me, I can't find the original photo. Thank you, though (whoever you are) for your inspiration!

My reaction to this design by Disney Cakes and Sweets was probably something like Lucy’s when she first walked through the wardrobe.

5. Madeline

A true classic, reinvented and artistically portrayed by Sweet Indulgence. My childhood lies in every layer.

6. Harold and the Purple Crayon

Another childhood classic brought to life! Cake Lava does an incredible job of recreating the world of Harold and his purple crayon.

7. Lord of the Rings

Little Women, the source of this memorable quote: “I've got the key to my castle in the air, but whether I can unlock the door remains to be seen.” Inspired by the long-cherished novel, this cake design is featured on Flavor Wire.

9. Jane Austen tribute

Sprinklebakes Jane Austin 12th night cake sprinklebakes.com

“What are men compared to chocolate and vanilla?” Or is it rocks and mountains? Either way. Cake design by Sprinkle Babes.

10. Non-fiction highlights

Including “The Outliers”, this wedding cake--yes, wedding cake--highlights all your non-fiction favorites. Brought to you by Kasal.com.

11. Hamlet

Winning entry - Hamlet - 2009 books 2 eat competition in Shanghai

Shakespeare never looked so good. Apparently, this incredible design was entered in the 2009 “Books to Eat” competition in Shanghai. Cool, huh?

12. Hedwig (Harry Potter)

Not sure what’s edible here what isn’t. All I know is PLEASE can I have one? A brilliant creation by Rosebud Cakes.

13. The Very Hungry Caterpillar

I don’t know about you, but that caterpillar isn’t the only one who’s very hungry right now.

14. Where the Wild Things Are

Yes, this is a cake, and an adorably terrifying one at that. Check out Charm City Cakes West for this and more incredible cake designs.

15. Hogwarts (Harry Potter)

Pagebook Media has assembled quite the list of book-inspired cakes as well, this being the most impressive of them all (on our humble opinion). A truly magical creation!

16. Twilight

Whether you're on Team Edward or Team Jacob, this cake design by And Everything Sweet will appeal to all Twilight fans.

17. The Hunger Games

This cake was a labor of love. The mockingjay on top was hand cut and sculpted from gumpaste, then airbrused. All other elements are pulled sugar, modeling chocolate, gumpaste and fondant. You may find more of my work on www.happyasalarkcakes.com and also on Facebook and twitter :)

Whoever “Olivia” is, I’d trade places with her in a second for a cake like this. Pick me! I volunteer as tribute! This cake was featured on Cake Central.

18. Pride & Prejudice

Photoset 57 of 1,579

Complete with a personalized note, this cake was clearly a labor of love. Well, it was created for a wedding shower, after all. Thank you, Cake Central, once again!

19. Sea Monsters in literature

Sea Monsters In Literature Groom’s Cake: Such an incredible cake for a literature lover! Stacks of fondant covered cake “books” with the top book splayed open to reveal a squid surprise. This cake is “sea monsters in literature” themed, with the book titles playing along: Moby Dick and 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea among them! I love the texture of the book spines, it really looks like old leather. The squid legs are made from rice krispie treats to keep them light and easily moldable.

There are wedding cakes, and then there are groom cakes, specifically. This groom cake, for example, features titles like Moby Dick and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea to make for one awesome Sea Monsters In Literature cake! Click here for this and other designs.

20. A Dr. Seuss tribute

Dr. Seuss Cake

From Green Eggs and Ham to How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Fancy that Cake brings to us one of the most... well, we won’t try to describe it. Only Dr. Seuss himself could ever have the words.

21. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

There’s a reason we saved this cake (by South Hill Designs) for last! If there’s any character whose inspired the creative chef in us, it’s Willy Wonka. This design is the result pure imagination.
